Everything We Know About Denver

Dining out for Life

May 1, 2008 · No Comments

Project Angel Heart is a Denver organization that promotes the health, dignity and self-sufficiency of people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by providing nutritious, home-delivered meals with care and compassion. I’ve volunteered for the organization before, driving around town to deliver food to their recipients.

Tonight, May 1st, is the night to Dine out for Life and support Project Angel Heart through participating restaurants. 25% of your meal price goes to the organization.

La Piazza dell’Arte

la piazza dell arte festival denver

On June 7 & 8, 2008 - 10 AM - 10 PM Saturday and 10 AM - 7 PM Sunday, La Piazza dell’Arte will take place. What the hell is that? It’s a chalk art festival in Larimer Square. I’ve been the past two years (I just stop by, grab a gelato from Gelazzi, look around and take off), and it’s pretty impressive. I recommend at least checking it out - you’ll be amazed the form that just chalk on pavement will take.

It’s not to late to sign up to be an artist, either.

Summertime means Farmers Markets are back!

May 1, 2008 · No Comments

It’s Farmers Market season! (Don’t pay attention to the snow. It will be back to 70s soon). Here are some of the markets I recommend this year, and I’ll be adding to the list throughout the summer, as well as writing individual reviews of each:

Ballpark Market - 2nd Saturday April - October (next is May 10th) @ Larimer St. between 21st and 22nd Streets. Not a “farmers” market but a fun market all the same! Featuring home goods, flea market style - dubbed as an open air European market.

Metro Denver Markets - weekend markets starts May 3rd. Check site for locations including Aspen Grove in Highlands Ranch and a Wheat Ridge location

Old Pearl Street Market - opens June 8th; Between Louisiana St. and Iowa St.

Cherry Creek Market - begins May 3rd @ Cherry Creek Mall - Bed, Bath & Beyond lot.

Stapleton Market - starts June 15th on Sundays @ Founder’s Green

City Park Market - starts June 1st on Sundays @ Sullivan Fountain at Colfax & City Park Esplanade

Denver Civic Centers Farmers Market - starts June 14th @ intersection of Bannock and 14th in the heart of Denver Civic Center Park

Lone Tree Market - starts May 13th @ intersection of Yosemite and Maximus

Parker Market - starts May 14th @ historic downtown Parker 1 1/2 blocks east of Parker Road on Main Street in the parking lot of the Mainstreet Center

Snow Day!

May 1, 2008 · No Comments

Denver Snow on May 1Yep, that’s right. It’s snowing today. On May 1st no less. Typical Denver weather if you ask me. Plus side is, the flakes outside my window look like huge cherry blossoms, so at least it feels springy in my head.

Now, I just pray for sun on Saturday (Derby Day)!

C says: While the accumulation of snow wasn’t too noticable in Denver proper, down south the flakes stacked up and created the kind of giddy excitement/horror like only a snowstorm in May could. There was talk among coworkers of closing the office and going sledding. While my windshield had 1-2 inches on it when I left for lunch, the roads were slushy and wet at best. Not ideal for sledding.
